When Evil Lurks

Argentina, USA | 2023 | Spanish| 100 min. | e.s.

The film initially appears to be a straightforward but masterfully structured possession story. Two brothers, Pedro (Ezequiel Rodríguez) and Jaime (Damián Salomón), who live and work in a remote area, discover that their neighbor’s son is “rotten” – meaning possessed by some sort of demon. Terrified, the two men rush to their landowner, who dismisses the whole thing as folklore. In doing so, he makes a grave error in judgment, leading to fatal consequences.

A well acted film with special effects that are technically flawless. You can feel the evil lurking in every scene, heightening the creep factor. This is a must-see horror treat for anyone who loves the genre.

Oddity and When Evil Lurks, our two selections in the horror genre, will be introduced in a master class on Thursday April 10th, led by Film by the Sea festival director and horror specialist par excellence, Mr. Jan “Horror” Doense. The master class will be conducted in English or Dutch, depending on the composition of the audience.
