Sujo

Mexico | 2025 | Spanish | 127 min. | e.s.

When a cartel gunman is killed, he leaves behind Sujo, his beloved four-year-old son. Taken in by an aunt, Sujo grows up in an environment marked by hardship and poverty. Throughout his life in the isolated Mexican countryside, the shadow of violence looms large. As Sujo matures into adulthood, he discovers that fulfilling his father’s destiny may be unavoidable.

Sujo, Mexico’s official entry for the Oscars, swept the 22nd Morelia International Film Festival, winning the Ojo Awards for Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. The Morelia Fest Jury described the film as “meticulously paced and darkly poetic, offering its protagonist an unusually optimistic and humane ending to his story”.

Screened together with the short film Buscando un burro.
