10th edition CIFF – 10-14 April 2024
After its world premiere during the film festival in April, Curaçao IFFR bring the by now widely recognized music documentary Salsa Giants, back in The Cinemas starting Thursday November 14.
The two screening during the 2013 film festival were sold out immediately, last month Salsa Giants attracted a large audience for its sold-out screenings during the Morelia Film Festival in Mexico and the music CD has been nominated for a Latin Grammy Award: Salsa is hot!
On August 31, 2012 ten world famous artists from the world of salsa came together for the first time in history on one stage: the Sir Duke stage of the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival. None other than hit singer Marc Anthony, the flamboyant bass player Oscar de León, Cheo Feliciano, Willy Chirino, Charlie Zaa, Jose Alberto ‘El Canario’, singer Tito Nieves, Nora from Roquesta de la Luz, Luis Enrique, and Andy Montañez gave an outstanding performance for a wildly enthusiastic audience of over 12000 people, all under the inspiring leadership of producer Sergio George.
USA/Venezuelan director Pablo Croce has recorded this exceptional event in a gripping, intimate and above-all swinging documentary. Atmospheric black-and-white backstage images, rehearsal footage showing musical sparks flying, archive footage and personal interviews with musicians are rhythmically edited to form a dynamic whole. And to top it all off, Salsa Giants naturally includes beautiful footage of that exceptional concert at Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival.
Special offer for the main screening on November 16, 21:00 hrs only: “get in the salsa mood”: wear a Laserie hat and get two tickets for the price of one!
