11th edition CIFF – 9-13 April 2025

Oddity

Ireland | 2024 | English | 98 min. | d.s.

The first horror film ever to be screened at a CIFF film festival, Oddity immediately takes you on a gripping, creepy, well-paced, and chilling journey. Living up to its name, the film features excellent cinematography and perfect audio effects that heighten the tension in every scene of this Irish horror-clairvoyant-detective story.

A year after Dani (Carolyn Bracken) was brutally murdered in her home, her husband, physician Ted (Gwilym Lee), still lives there – now with his new girlfriend Yana (Caroline Menton). When Dani’s twin sister Darcy (Bracken again) shows up unannounced on the one year anniversary of the murder, she startles Ted and Yana. Convinced there is more to her sister’s death, Darcy is determined to uncover the truth. From here, the supernatural begins to take hold, resulting in mystery and guesswork that will keep you hooked throughout. An old-fashioned ghost horror made to perfection.

Oddity and When Evil Lurks, our two selections in the horror genre, will be introduced in a master class on Thursday April 10th, led by Film by the Sea festival director and horror specialist par excellence, Mr. Jan “Horror” Doense. The master class will be conducted in English or Dutch, depending on the composition of the audience.
