10th edition CIFF – 10-14 April 2024
On the fourth day of the film festival, the Yellow Robin Award 2014 for emerging filmmakers has been handed out. The Award comes with a cheque in the amount of USD 10,000, but something even more important and valuable for any emerging filmmaker: guaranteed screening of the film at the next International Film Festival Rotterdam, the fourth largest film festival of Europe.
After careful deliberation by the jury, consisting of Bernadette Heiligers, Norman de Palm and guest jury member Anup Singh (opening film Qissa), it was decided that the second Yellow Robin Award goes to: Damian Marcano, maker van God Loves the Fighter, a raw, realistic take on life in the eastern part of Port of Spain, Trinidad: murder capital of the Caribbean.
God Loves the Fighter is Marcano’s first feature film. Earlier he made the short film The Little Boy and the Ball (2011).
Short Movies, BIG Stories
In the local Short Movies, BIG Stories competition the actual Jury Awards were handed out. The three Jury Award winning films had been announced at the Preview on 20 March and the films were screened during the festival before each of the Yellow Robin Award nominees where the audience could cast their votes for their favorite film. The Audience Award 2014 goes to: Stacey Bohorquez for her music video The Heart of Creativity.
The Audience Award entails a trip to the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2015 where the filmmakers can participate in various workshops and network with other filmmakers.
