Special Lost & Found segment featuring lost local and international film, television fragments, paintings, and photos.

WILLEMSTAD, February 14, 2025 – Back in October of last year, the Curaçao International Film Festival (CIFF) approached Landhuis Bloemhof with the exciting proposal to collaborate and organize an art competition inspired by a lost painting by Rembrandt from his Five Senses series: the one depicting Taste. The grand prize of this competition being a 15 minute documentary to be made about the winner and to be shown at the CIFF 2025.

Then followed an open call to our visual artist community. The artists were challenged by the theme TASTE to create their own interpretation of this missing piece. Each participant received a 40 x 30 cm canvas to work on, with the restrictions and requirements that the dimensions remain the same and not exceed 10 cm in depth.

We received 31 submissions. The art works were presented to a jury without the names of the participating artists. Any signatures were covered. Our panel of judges spent two days carefully evaluating each piece to come to a conclusion.

On behalf of the jury, we are pleased to announce that the Absolute Winner of the competition is Arthur Oster, who will be awarded a short documentary about his work. This grand prize will premiere at the Curaçao International Film Festival 2025 to be held from April 9 – April 14 on Curaçao.

Honorable mentions go to Kemuël Sandries en Richard Doest.

The paintings of the finalists will be officially revealed at the opening night of the CIFF 2025 to be held from April 9 to April 14. The artworks of the three finalists can be seen during the entire CIFF in the Movies Otrobanda.

As of April 15 all 31 CIFF competition art works will be part of the exhibition Taste to be held at Landhuis Bloemhof. This show can be seen till May 3.

On Saturday April 19 there will be an opening event starting 10:30 am.

And on Thursday April 24 the documentary of the winner will be shown plus a CIFF 2025 full feature film in an outdoor move event at Landhuis Bloemhof.

On the photo: On February 14 the results of the CIFF ‘Lost and Found’ Art competition was announced in the presence of the members of the jury, the chair person of Landhuis Bloemhof, the CIFF representative on Curaçao and of course the finalists.
