10th edition CIFF – 10-14 April 2024
5th edition CIFFR Kicks off with Preview El apóstata and Program launch on 31 March
Traditionally, one week before the start of the festival, the organization announces its full festival program accompanied by a screening of one of the films. On Thursday 31 March, the audience can get a preview of the festival’s program for the fifth edition with the screening of El apóstata from Spanish Uruguayan filmmaker Federico Veiroj (La vida útil, 2010) at festival site The Cinemas.
In El apóstata, Gonzalo Tamayo (Álvaro Ogalla) raised like so many Spaniards as a Catholic, wants to turn his back on that faith. But it turns out not to be easy to get an official apostasy – to get struck off their list by the church and his baptism declared void. Gonzalo, the eternal student type, finally gets his teeth into it. He feels he has reached a turning point: if he doesn’t make a new start now, maybe he never will. But the past continues to force itself on him, in increasingly realistic fantasies.
Despite Gonzalo’s problems, the film has a light-hearted and optimistic note. A self-assured, funny and dark fairy tale about the will to change.
El apóstata (Spanish with English subtitles) screens in The Cinemas on Thursday 31 March at 20:00. Tickets for this screening are available at the box office of The Cinemas starting Thursday 24 March.
On this evening the Opening Film for the 5th edition of Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam (6 – 10 April) will be announced together with the full festival program. Ticket sales for the festival will then start at The Cinemas on Saturday 2 April at 10:00.
Prior to the opening night of the festival on Wednesday 6 April, CIFFR invites the public to attend the first Open Air Cinema event on Brionplein on Tuesday 5 April. This is a free event, suitable for all ages and offers a program of short films followed by the main (musical) feature film. The audience is advised to bring a (folding) chair!
