In this deeply personal work, which Anger calls “giving birth to yourself,” we follow Vita (Odessa Young) as the alter ego of Anger. Documentary footage from Anger’s own life is woven throughout the film, intercut with Vita’s memories and experiences. Vita’s story serves as a version of Anger’s own narrative. This connection is emphasized through the film’s prevailing metaphor, which frames artistic creation in terms of pregnancy, birth, and abortion.

Throughout many scenes, filmmaker Anger and character Vita blend together in ways that artists typically resist. The film ultimately explores learning to have compassion for your younger self.
