My Favourite Cake

Once again, the Iranian government has gone to extremes to prevent the distribution of this film. Production facilities were raided; computers, hard drives, and other materials were confiscated. Fortunately, the filmmakers had a copy stored in another country. The film's gentle humanity is a compelling rebuke to this ruthless repression.

The lead actress, Lili Farhadpour, performs beautifully as Mahin, whose story is about love and loss, loneliness and old age. Her occasional lunches with female friends are hilarious, dealing at length with everyone’s ailments. But is it possible to find romance again at their age? Mahin has no doubts and takes the lead with one aim: to meet a man. She finds herself meeting Faramarz (Esmaeel Mehrabi), a cab driver. They connect and share a moment together at Mahin’s apartment, where she has baked her favourite cake.
