Memorias de un cuerpo que arde

Costa Rica | 2024 | Spanish | 90 min. | e.s.

A moving mixture of documentary and fiction, this film tells an intimate story through voice-overs of three women over 65 who look back on their relationships. Actress Sol Carballo embodies these three women. The film transitions seamlessly from one era to another, from present to past, from young to old, and from sad to joyful times. The main setting is an apartment full of history, with a continuous invitation to journey down memory lane.

There is a constant undercurrent of social repression, domestic violence, and abuse from a young age. However, these experiences have not extinguished the burning desire for sexuality that still resides in these women’s bodies and hearts. “You’d need a firefighter to put out the fire in me”, one of them smilingly insists. The voices inhabiting this film show that it’s never too late to reinvent oneself and take back control of one’s own destiny.

Screened together with the short film Hasta que el alma baile.
