LaRoy, Texas

USA, France | 2024 | 112 min | English | d.s.

In a small Texas town, mistaken identity and infidelity set the stage for LaRoy, Texas. Ray (John Magaro), broke and despondent, is mistakenly identified as a dangerous hitman and handed an envelope full of cash. With his friend Skip (Steve Zahn) by his side, Ray must outrun the real hitman to survive and escape LaRoy.

Steve Zahn delivers a standout performance as an overconfident private detective determined to solve a case he wasn’t even hired for. The film expertly combines the macabre with the absurd, creating a thoroughly entertaining experience. The cast shines in portraying flawed but entirely believable characters.

Director Shane Atkinson pays homage to the Coen Brothers while forging his own path, crafting what could be considered a new genre: Texan noir farce. The music beautifully underscores the rural Texas setting.
