10th edition CIFF – 10-14 April 2024
From Wednesday 11 April through Sunday 15 April 2018, the 7th edition of Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam (CIFFR) will take place in Willemstad. CIFFR presents the highlights of the most recent edition of IFFR – one of the largest film festivals in Europe – gripping new titles from other film festivals, and promising new work by filmmakers from the region, most importantly in its Yellow Robin Award Competition and the Caribbean Shorts Competition.
This year’s edition opens on Wednesday 11 April with Gustav Möller’s thrilling debut The Guilty, which won the Audience Award at IFFR 2018.
Main actor Jakob Cedergren will attend the opening.
A single space, a great lead, a compelling script and a nail-biting soundtrack is all debut director Gustav Möller needs to captivate his audience for 90 minutes. Asger Holm is fabulous as the tortured, headstrong cop hell bent on solving a disturbing phone call during a shift manning the emergency line.
WED 11 APR 19:00 & 20:00 • FRI 13 APR 13:30 • SAT 14 APR 22:30 • SUN 15 APR 18:15
The festival closes with Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool by Paul McGuigan, the director of Lucky Number Slevin, on Sunday 15 April.
Besides the Yellow Robin and Caribbean Shorts competitions, the seventh edition of CIFFR presents a special program entitled Scenes of Senses that investigates the way film stimulates not just the eye, but our other senses too. There is also an extensive educational program as well as the recurring Music Calls program featuring music documentaries. Among the twenty or so highlights from IFFR 2018 shown in Curaçao are The Insult by Ziad Doueiri, The Florida Project by Sean Baker, and three films that competed in the Hivos Tiger Competition, including the Special Jury Award and HBF Audience Award winner The Reports on Sarah and Saleem by Muayad Alayan.
The complete film program of the 2018 edition will be announced on Thursday 5 April on the website and in the festival program book that will be available starting that day at festival location The Cinemas in Otrobanda, at The Movies and Mensing’s Caminada. Ticket sale starts on Saturday 7 April at 10:00 at The Cinemas Box Office.
More titles will be announced the coming weeks via website and social media.
