10th edition CIFF – 10-14 April 2024
For the 6th edition of Curaçao International Film Festival Rotterdam, the annual short film competition has been given a make-over and a new name: Caribbean Shorts Competition.
Last April, CIFFR entered into a cooperation agreement with six film festivals in the region to promote and encourage the exchange of know-how and experience in the field of filmmaking through, among other things, organizing competitions, workshops, and the exchange of talented professionals. With this in mind, CIFFR decided to adapt the set-up of the annual short film competition to have not only local but also Caribbean filmmakers compete and get a chance to have their film screened at multiple festivals in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Caribbean Shorts Competition
Filmmakers from Curaçao, Aruba, St Maarten, BES, and Suriname are invited to enter a short film (min. 3 and max. 20 minutes) into this competition through the online submission form. Contrary to previous editions of the short film competition, it is no longer required to make a film based on an assigned genre or theme. Commercials or music videos are not allowed.
From these entries, one (1) film will be selected to continue in the competition and be nominated for the Caribbean Shorts Award. The six cooperating festivals will also each submit one film into the competition. Thus, a total of seven (7) films will be nominated and compete for the Award.
Caribbean Shorts Award
During the festival, an international jury will select the winner of the Caribbean Shorts Award 2017 that will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Saturday, 8 April 2017.
The winner will have his film screened at all six cooperating festivals that signed the cooperation agreement last year.
The six cooperating festivals are: Festival Internacional del Nuevo Cine Latinoamericano de la Havana (Cuba), Festival de Cine Global Dominicano (Dominican Republic), Festival Régional et International du Cinéma de Guadeloupe, Rencontres Cinéma Martinique, Morelia International Film Festival (Mexico), and Trinidad & Tobago Film Festival.
Deadline to enter a short film is 1 March 2017.
