Bird

United Kingdom | 2024 | 119 min | English | d.s.

A story of children raising children. The complete absence of anything resembling structure is normal for them. Bird is told from the viewpoint of 12-year-old Bailey (Nykiya Adams), who is growing up in an unconventional family with her brother, Hunter (Jason Buda). Their extravagantly tattooed father, Bud (Barry Keoghan), is a pretty good dad - if only because he actually talks to his kids.

Bailey is on the verge of puberty. One day, she meets a man named Bird (Franz Rogowski). Bird and Bud become the two opposing forces of the film, radiating completely different energies. The Bird we see onscreen is filtered through Bailey’s imagination. Who – or what – is Bird? A guardian angel? A ghost? Director Arnold maintains a teasing sense of ambiguity throughout.
