A Different Man

USA | 2024 | 112 min | English | d.s.

A dramedy about Edward Lemuel (Sebastian Stan), a shy and sensitive man living with facial disfigurement caused by neurofibromatosis. Edward’s only work to date has been acting in an instructional video about treating co-workers with facial disfigurements.

Edward befriends his new neighbor, Ingrid, who promises him a role in her play. After undergoing successful surgery, Edward reinvents himself as Guy, a confident real estate agent. However, Edward – now Guy – remains uncomfortable in his own skin, regardless of his appearance. Things take a turn with the arrival of Oswald (Adam Pearson), a self-assured British man who shares Edward’s facial disfigurement but has no interest in medical treatments. Guy becomes obsessed with Oswald, whom he sees as a happier, more successful version of his former self. Adding to his frustrations, Oswald also wants the role promised to him in the play.

This film explores identity and questions what truly defines us in today’s world.
